NOTE: A quick explanation on Andyıs counting system. When reading/recording splits,
I read the # of seconds (e.g. 60, 61, 62, etc) up to 99 seconds (which is 1:39 <1 minute,
39 seconds>). Just remember that 60 seconds = 1 minute. After 99,
I switch to saying minutes and seconds (e.g. 1:40, 1:41, 1:42, etc).
This workout in particular causes problems because the 400ıs are often a combination of both. When writing results the clipboard, though, to save time the colon (:)
is omitted. So 1 minute 41 seconds is written as 141 in an effort to get it written down quickly. EXAMPLE: Looking at the above results for the first 400:
John Santos ran 94 (1:34) and 7 seconds later Malinda came in with a 1:41.
Why does I count in such a strange fashion? Couldnıt tell you?
Just how Iıve been doing it. Picked it up either as a high school runner from
Coach Wilson at Lowell or while being team manager at UCLA.
All I know is that there are hundreds of kids out there and hundreds of adults
who do Thur night track workouts who have been forced to learn this methodology.
